Winter weather advisory for Sierra Nevada, Shasta County, and surrounding areas to remain active through Thursday, 3/6/25

The National Weather Service Sacramento has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Burney Basin, Eastern Shasta County, Lassen Park, and the West Slope of the Northern Sierra Nevada. Heavy snow is expected above 4,000 feet, with up to 16 inches possible in higher elevations.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued another Winter Weather Advisory for higher elevations in Burney Basin, Eastern Shasta County, Western Plumas County, Lassen Park, and the West Slope of the Northern Sierra Nevada. The advisory will be in effect from 4 AM Wednesday, March 5, through 4 PM Thursday, March 6, impacting elevations above 4,000 feet.

Expected Snowfall

  • 3 to 8 inches expected between 4,000 and 5,500 feet
  • 10 to 16 inches anticipated above 5,500 feet
  • Light dusting possible between 3,000 and 4,000 feet

Snow levels will initially remain above 5,500 feet on Wednesday morning but are forecasted to drop rapidly to 4,000-5,000 feet by the afternoon, eventually lowering further to 3,000-3,500 feet by early Thursday morning.
