DFPI Warns of Fraudulent Website Impersonating Licensed Adviser

The California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) has issued a consumer alert warning that the website lisamoyerroth.com is falsely claiming to be a licensed investment adviser. According to DFPI, the site is attempting to impersonate Lisa M. Roth, a legitimate California-licensed Investment Adviser and Broker-Dealer Agent.

Roth, whose CRD number is 2093325, is properly registered with R.F. Lafferty & Co., Inc. (CRD number 2498), a firm that holds both an active Broker-Dealer license with DFPI and an Investment Adviser license with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The fraudulent website, however, is not affiliated with either Roth or R.F. Lafferty & Co., Inc.

DFPI officials are urging Californians to exercise extreme caution when approached by anyone offering investment or financial services online. Scammers often create imitation websites to trick consumers into providing personal information or transferring funds.

Consumers can verify whether a financial professional or firm is licensed in California by visiting dfpi.ca.gov or calling the DFPI Consumer Services Office at 1-866-275-2677. The department also encourages the public to report suspicious solicitations or fraudulent activity through its online complaint portal.
