Psychologists practicing in California must pay a variety of fees throughout the licensing process, from application to renewal and reactivation. This guide outlines all required fees, including those for initial application, renewal, reactivation, and examinations.

Psychologist Licensing Fees

The following fees are paid to the California Board of Psychology for licensing and renewal, per the Board's latest psychologist fee schedule.

Initial Licensing Fees

  • Application for Licensure – $236.00
  • California Psychology Law and Ethics Examination (CPLEE) Application – $127.00
  • Initial Licensure Fee – $231.00

License Renewal Fees

  • Active License Renewal (Biennial) – $825.00*
  • Inactive License Renewal (Biennial) – $241.00**
  • Renewal Delinquency Fee (Active License) – $397.50
  • Renewal Delinquency Fee (Inactive License) – $110.50
  • Duplicate License – $5.00
  • Retired License Fee – $75.00
  • License Verification Fee – $5.00
  • File Transfer Fee – $10.00


Psychologist License Reactivation Fees

If you have an inactive license and wish to reactivate it, you must provide:

  1. A License Reactivation Form.
  2. Documentation of 36 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) earned within the past 24 months.
  3. The appropriate reactivation fee.

Reactivation Fees

  • At the time of regular renewal: Check the “Active” box on the renewal form and pay the $825.00 active renewal fee.
  • Before the scheduled renewal date: Fee is $23.92 per month (or partial month) remaining in the license cycle + a $10.00 processing fee.

Example Calculation:
If you submit a reactivation application in January and your license expires in April:

  • 4 months x $23.92 = $95.68
  • Processing fee = $10.00
  • Total due = $105.68

Psychological Associate Fees

  • Initial Application Fee – $424.00
  • Annual Renewal Fee – $224.00
  • Supervisor Change/Add Fee – $210.00
  • Renewal Delinquency Fee – $112.00

Psychological Testing Technician Fees

  • Initial Application Fee – $75.00
  • Annual Renewal Fee – $75.00
  • Renewal Delinquency Fee – $37.50

Examination Fees (Paid to Outside Entities)

Fees related to required exams are paid directly to Pearson VUE.

  • Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) – $600.00
  • Pearson VUE Appointment Fee – $87.50
  • Rescheduling Fee (31–24 hours before the exam) – $87.50
  • Rescheduling Fee (within 24 hours or no-show)$687.50 (Forfeits all fees)
  • Practice EPPP Online – $55.00
  • Practice EPPP at Pearson Professional Center – $115.00

Other Fees

  • Out-of-State Fingerprint Hard Card Processing – $233.00***
    (Includes a $32 DOJ fee and $17 FBI fee)
  • Laws & Regulations Booklet (Hard Copy) – Available for purchase.

Notes:

  • *Active license renewal includes a $20 Mental Health Practitioner Education Fund (MHPEF) fee and a $10 Continuing Education (CE) Audit fee.
  • **Inactive license renewal includes the $20 MHPEF fee.
  • Fees are non-refundable and subject to change.
